Blue Velvet installation is set next to Piraeus port in a room of an old apartment that in the past used to be a brothel for the sailors. The contrast of today’s luxurious regeneration of the port and the dark past of the apartment’s room created Blue Velvet as a place where beauty and violence coexist. The broken mirror parts can act both as vanity mirrors as well as self defense mechanisms. The softness and tenderness of the bed is transformed into a dangerous area reflecting the memories of the lives of the past sex workers. The ‘mirror’ that hangs above the bed acts as a dark portal depicting animal hands and claws that again, can both caress as well as act violent weapons.
